Best Parks in Vasastan 2026

Looking for the best green spaces in Vasastan? Here are four parks that locals love, perfect for picnics, evening walks and summer sun in the heart of Stockholm.

Vasastan is one of Stockholm’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. It is not just about the beautiful turn-of-the-century architecture or the well-stocked restaurants along Odengatan. It is equally about being close to nature. For many who choose to live in Vasastan, the parks are one of the main reasons they stay. Many who rent an apartment in Vasastan highlight the proximity to green spaces as one of the biggest advantages of the neighbourhood.

Here are the four parks we always recommend when someone asks us about life in Vasastan.

Vasaparken

Vasaparken is the heart of Vasastan and the first park most people think of. It sits centrally between Sankt Eriksplan, Torsgatan, Dalagatan and Odengatan, and is easy to reach by metro.

The park offers something for everyone, across every season. In summer, the lawns fill with people picnicking, playing kubb and sunbathing on the western slope. That slope catches the evening sun beautifully, and we always recommend bringing a blanket and settling in there sometime between 7 and 9 in the evening during the summer months. It is one of Vasastan’s finest free moments.

In winter, the football pitch transforms into one of the inner city’s most appreciated ice skating rinks. It is a tradition that families and expats who have made Vasastan their home tend to discover quickly and never give up.

The park also has two cafés, a mini golf course and a well-equipped playground with themed areas for different age groups. Astrid Lindgren lived just next to the park and several of her stories are set here, including Peter and Petra.

It is easy to understand why Vasaparken is one of the strongest arguments for moving to Vasastan.

Nearest metro: Sankt Eriksplan or Odenplan

Vanadislunden

Vanadislunden is the park we tend to recommend to those who want a little more calm and a view worth stopping for. It covers nearly nine hectares and stretches up along Brunkebergsåsen in northern Vasastan, with winding paths, old-growth trees and open meadows.

From here you look out over parts of Östermalm, Vasastan and Stockholm’s northern surroundings. It is the kind of view that makes you forget you are in the middle of a capital city.

The park is home to St. Stephen’s Church, which is open to the public, and the sculpture Girl in the Evening Sun by Anders Jönsson. There is also a dedicated dog park at the top of the hill, which makes Vanadislunden a favourite among dog owners in the area.

Our recommendation is to take the upper walking trail and find a spot at the viewpoint with a flask of coffee as the evening light settles over the city. Vanadislunden is popular among both Swedish families and international tenants looking for a calm neighbourhood to call home.

Nearest metro: Odenplan (approximately ten minutes on foot)

Tegnérlunden

Tegnérlunden is a small park with a lot of character. It sits on the border between Norrmalm and Vasastan, right by Sveavägen, and is known for its statues of August Strindberg and Astrid Lindgren.

It is said that the story of Mio, My Son begins right here. That gives the park a particular atmosphere that is difficult to put into words.

Tegnérlunden is the park we recommend for a quick outdoor lunch or an hour of reading with a takeaway coffee from one of the cafés along Sveavägen. In summer, the small paddling pool fills with water and draws families from across the neighbourhood.

It is not a large park, but it is one that stays with you. It is used daily by those who live nearby and is one of those small details that make people who find a home in Vasastan reluctant to ever leave.

Nearest metro: Rådmansgatan or Odenplan

Observatorielunden

Observatorielunden is perhaps the most overlooked of Vasastan’s parks, which is a shame because it genuinely deserves a visit. It sits on a hill just south of Sveavägen, surrounding the old 18th-century observatory, and offers panoramic views across the inner city rooftops.

The park is quieter and more sheltered than Vasaparken, and suits anyone looking for a moment of stillness. There are benches along the paths, a small pond and a café terrace that opens during summer. Sculptures by Ivar Johnsson and Nils Möllerberg give the park an artistic and historical depth that is easy to appreciate.

We love bringing new visitors and tenants here when they first arrive in Stockholm and want to understand the city from a different angle. The view from up here explains quite well why Vasastan is one of Stockholm’s most attractive neighbourhoods to live in.

Why So Many People Choose to Live in Vasastan

Vasastan consistently ranks among Stockholm’s most desirable areas. That is not a coincidence. The combination of a central location, beautiful architecture, quality restaurants and walking distance to several green spaces is hard to find anywhere else in the inner city.

It is a neighbourhood that works equally well for families, young professionals, Swedish tenants and international expats searching for a corporate apartment with high standards and an active neighbourhood atmosphere. The proximity to Odenplan, with its restaurants, shops and public transport connections, makes it easy to live without a car.

Many who choose to rent out their apartment in Vasastan quickly find that demand is strong. The neighbourhood attracts tenants who prioritise location, quality and security over the lowest possible rent. That is a real advantage if you own a property in the area.
