The concept is simple and well-executed: the grill is at the centre and almost everything is cooked over open embers. The menu moves freely between classic cuts and more unusual selections, drawing on European traditions and international techniques. It feels ambitious without being complicated.
When we have eaten here, we have gone with the steak. That always turns out to be the right call, and it is what most people at nearby tables order as well. The fries are among the best we have had in Stockholm. The wine list leans toward the Old World but also includes bottles from the US and beyond.

Noema is located on the ground floor of the Wallenstam building on Birger Jarlsgatan, and you can tell the space was designed to impress. Grand chandeliers, wine-red panels along the walls, and round tables with linen cloths. It is an environment that works just as well for a business dinner as for an evening out with old friends.
The menu is built around sharing and what is in season. Everything from snacks and smaller dishes to dry-aged meat and fish is on offer, and you can order however it suits you. What we always recommend is to start with the steak tartare. It arrives with bone marrow foam and shallots, and is made to be shared before the main cuts arrive. Noema also has a back room with a separate entrance where music plays and cocktails are mixed, if you want to end the evening in a livelier atmosphere.
On weekends brunch is served, and it is genuinely one of the better brunch options in Östermalm. Entrecôte, oysters, and avocado toast with truffle are the kinds of things that tend to appear on the menu.

The space is a converted old pharmacy, with interiors designed by Fredrik Forsberg and art by Vincent Skoglund. It looks like a place that was built to last a hundred years.
The philosophy behind Svartengrens is clear: responsible meat from Swedish farms and Stockholm’s archipelago, nothing more, nothing unnecessary. The meat is dry-aged on site, the bacon is smoked and cured in the kitchen, and the menu changes according to what is available. It is a restaurant that is unapologetic about depending entirely on its ingredients.
Svartengrens is recommended by the Michelin Guide, and that recognition is well earned. The dry-aged entrecôte with fries and bearnaise is what we always come back to. It is simple and done correctly, and the meat tastes the way meat should when you understand why they hold so firmly to their principles.
