Looking for Asian restaurants in Östermalm? Here are three places that keep locals coming back, from a Japanese izakaya to a Cantonese classic and a modern dinner club.
Östermalm is a neighbourhood with a broad and ambitious restaurant scene. That is perhaps most visible in how Asian cuisine has established itself here over the past few years. Not as a passing trend, but as a natural part of an area that has always been at the forefront of Stockholm dining.
Many who live in or rent an apartment in Östermalm point to access to a varied and high-quality restaurant scene as one of the neighbourhood’s greatest strengths. The three restaurants below are a good illustration of why.
Miyakodori
Miyakodori on Upplandsgatan is one of the restaurants Stockholm’s culinary world has talked about most since it opened in late 2022. In Stora Gastronomipriset 2025, an industry vote where chefs and restaurateurs choose their favourites, it landed in fifth place. That says a lot.
The concept is a Japanese izakaya, a kind of gastropub where people gather to eat and drink well in a relaxed setting. Behind the restaurant are three experienced chefs with backgrounds at Frantzén, Pontus Group, Lux and Adam/Albin. That pedigree shows in every dish that leaves the kitchen.
The menu moves between charcoal-grilled yakitori skewers, salmon sashimi, gratinated oysters and crispy tofu. What sets Miyakodori apart is the balance between the familiar and the unexpected. The blackboard of evening specials keeps things unpredictable, and that is a large part of the appeal.
Our recommendation is to go for omakase and let the restaurant take the wheel. The sesame ice cream for dessert is one of those dishes people talk about on the way home. Book well in advance as they are rarely quiet.

Hongkist
Hongkist on Linnégatan is the kind of restaurant people return to year after year without needing to discuss it. It is one of Östermalm’s most reliable addresses for Cantonese and Chinese food, known among both locals and expats who appreciate well-executed Asian cuisine in a modern and relaxed setting.
The menu features classics such as crispy Peking duck, wok-cooked dishes and flavours from the Sichuan region of China. The food is not complicated but it is consistently well made, served in a pared-back industrial interior with black ceilings, white walls and an open kitchen setup.
The fact that Björn Frantzén is a known regular says something about the level. He tends to know what he is doing when it comes to choosing where to eat.
Our recommendation is the crispy duck. It is the dish everyone orders and the one that stays with you afterwards. At lunch, Hongkist is also one of Östermalm’s more accessible options in terms of price, offering good food and quick service.
Address: Linnégatan 13, 114 47 Stockholm Phone: 08-660 69 29 Opening hours: Monday to Friday 10:30 to 14:30 and 16:30 to 21:00, Saturday 17:00 to 21:00, Sunday 16:30 to 21:00 Website: hongkist.se
Kasai
Kasai on Linnégatan 18 is something different from the other two. It is a dinner club with Japanese and Asian inspiration, designed for a full evening rather than just a meal. Dim lighting, high energy and a kitchen that delivers Asian fusion with a clear sense of atmosphere.
The menu covers sushi, sashimi and grilled dishes in a format where the setting is as deliberately chosen as the food. Asian-inspired cocktails, a kitchen that moves at pace and a room that shifts gear as the evening progresses. On Fridays and Saturdays the doors stay open until three in the morning.
It is a restaurant for those who want more than just dinner. For anyone who has recently moved to Östermalm and wants to experience the neighbourhood’s evening life, Kasai is a natural stop.
Our recommendation is not to rush. Come for dinner, stay for a drink and see where the night takes you.
